Hello
Well here I am, with my first blog.. what a concept. Hopefully this will enable me to keep in touch with my friends on a regular basis. I am the world's worst letter writer, even to writing emails. Soooo I came up with this brilliant idea (drum roll) to keep in touch with my friends and not feel guilty if I dont write very often.. Of course, this assumes I will remember to actually post messages here letting said friends know what I have been up to..
This weekend for instance has been sunny and warm and I actually managed to get out in the yard and do some weeding.. The winter killed a few of my favorite plants, especially the threadlead cypress.. Sadly the weeds survived. Especially the blankety blank creeping buttercup... It is determined to take over the flower beds at the fence line. I was able to use weedkiller (gasp) on a few of the buttercups but some that are growing in and around the clematis and the shrub roses require a more hands on approach.
We plan on putting this place on the market at some point in the not too distant future. With that in mind I have decided to downsize the flower beds and put the yard into sod as instant lawn.. Just have to keep the dogs, Maggie and Angel, out of the newly planted flower beds and lawn until they are both established.. We have been in this 70 something three storey townhouse for almost 5 years. Frankly, the stairs are getting to both Bren and I That galley kitchen with its miniscule counterspace and minimal storage is also getting to be a real pain in the neck.. I do soooo miss the big kitchen we had at the condo we lived in before buying this place.. It seemed like a good idea at the time..
In the meantime we also had the basement painted and I did the stairs and the floor in a very nice color called Root Beer Goes nicely with the wall and ceiling paint in the basement.. salmon creek and shrimp something or other .. very pretty though Made a huge difference in the way the basement looked before.. drab and boring.
Word of advice on doing stairs.. Let some one else pull all the staples out. sigh...... Once the ugly orange carpet (shades on the 70s) was pulled up and the underlay removed I was faced with the daunting task of removing the hundreds of staples used to keep the underlay in place. I suspect the carpet layers operated on the principal of if a few is good, more is even better. I finally gave in and had the handywoman I had hired to remover the staples from the rest of the stairs I could not manage.
As for the renovations we did on the rest of the house.. smile.. I will leave that tale for another day.. It is 8:30 pm here in sunny Surrey, BC. And the weather is supposed to be hot hot hot for the rest of the week.. Needless to say any gardening I do will take place early in the morning.
chat with you again soon
